Staff Spotlight: Molly Shortell

April 26, 2017

Molly Shortell attended Grinnell College and graduated with a BA in English and Psychology. As a first-year student, she sought out advocacy opportunities and was led to CIS. Molly’s passion for CIS’ mission grew stronger throughout her time as a volunteer, which inspired her to pursue a career with the organization after graduation. In June 2016, Molly began her work as a Housing Outreach Advocate covering six counties.

When reflecting upon her career Molly will say, “I like to see my clients succeed. I can’t fix the world or change the past, but I can be empathetic and patient when working with clients.” Molly strives to promote positive social change by providing emotional support for clients, helping clients find housing, and by bringing awareness to communities supported by CIS. Molly says that “coming together as a community is powerful,” and she advises everyone to work together. Unfortunately, domestic violence is often ignored and becomes a destructive cycle. “We need to have the courage to see abusive relationships,” Molly encourages. Imagine the power of a community joining together to make a difference.
